PART1: Dislodging of toxins from cells
Shodhana Karma starts with a traditional footbath anda Mandala Signature Massage using cold-pressed sesame oil, herbalizedwith Calamus root powder. The molecules of cold-pressed sesameoil are smaller than those of our red blood cells, so the oilis able to penetrate the blood stream, attract oil-soluble environmentaltoxins, and dislodge them consequently from body tissue. It aidseffectively in the detoxification process. Calamus root powderwas highly praised since Mesopotamian and Egyptian times, andis mentioned in the bible as an ingredient to the holy anointingoil. Calamus strengthens the nerves, improves energy and is saidto be helpful during times of emotional exhaustion.
PART2: Elimination of toxins from the body
Following the massage is a sauna ritual (swedana), which integratesseveral sauna cycles, aromatherapy, and herbal tonics to furtheraid in the elimination of environmental pollutants from the bodythrough perspiration. Since ancient times, the sauna has alwaysbeen traditionally used as a sanctuary for healing and regeneration.Through exposure to sauna heat, the immune system is stimulatedand the endocrine glandular functions are regulated. Ginger, theuniversal medicine, is one of the main ingredients in the preparationof tonics used in this endeavor which also assists in detoxification.The Rosemary oil used in the sauna water, on the other hand, hasa stimulating and invigorating effect.
